Crohn's colitis: Colitis is inflammation of the colon; multiple causes. Granulomas are a type of cellular inflammatory reaction. Crohn's disease is characterized by granulomatous inflammation. Less common other causes include tuberculosis (different type of granuloma) and sarcoidosis. Ulcerative colitis (other ibd) affects lining of colon, may have very superficial granulomas, but not the same as crohn's.

Tummy Ache: Focal colitis is a general term for inflammation of a particular area of colon. Usually this is caused by food-borne illness or inflammatory bowel disease (like crohn's disease). Very rarely serious pathology like mesenteric ischemia can show a focal colitis but you would be extremely ill. Typically a colitis will resolve on its own, but can occasionally need antibiotics.

Depends.: cannot say in your particular case, but generally, most of the colon irritation that is short term is from viral infection. BRAT diet, pepto bismal are generally enough and it goes away in a day or two. can be with a bacterial infection that needs specific diagnosis and treatment. Can be an autoimmune disease. These get worse in 1-2 days not better.

What is u.c: hi SmitaS UC is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, and manifested by cramps, diarrea and blood in the stool. It is diagnosed on colonoscopy after seeing blood in the stool. It can be a CANCER PRECURSOR and so should be seen by gastroenterologist.thanks
