Different issues: Delayed cord clamping is very effective at reducing perinatal anemia. In fact, a recent british study supports this. Blood banking is another issue. There you are storing fetal cord blood in hopes that should your baby develop a disease in the future, science will have progressed enough that use of those cord blood cells will be therapeutic.

No: Long term the blood banking has the possibility of providing long term benefit (in the case that the blood can be used for something). The delayed cord clamping has the possibility of more immediate good effects.

DIFFERENT ISSUES: If you want a good source of stem cells for your child if s/he were ever to develop a nasty cancer where chemo and a bone marrow transplant were the main options, then bank the cord blood.By the time s/he grows up, other things may be treatable by stem cells. If you want baby to avoid early anemia, delayed clamping is effective. If delayed too long, the blood can get too thick and result in problems
