Cord blood banking..: provides stems cells that may be useful in research or for treating diseases that require stem cell transplants. There are public "banks" or private banks where you cord blood is reserved for the donating family if someone would ever need it. This service is available in India. Cord blood banking: Cord blood contains stem cells which can be useful for transplantation into the infant or fully matched family member in the event of certain illnesses, mostly uncommon ones. The process is quite expensive and controversial. Benefit may be present if a known family member has a history of one of the diseases for which stem cell transplant is a possibility. The AAP maintains a cautious stance.
