Neurologist/Primary: Chronic pain can be a challenge. Knowing the cause is very important. If you've not yet had a visit with your doctor, do so. The symptoms you describe may be due to nerve impingement at the neck, due to a disc displacement or bone changes in the vertebral body. Impingement can also occur in the extremity due to large muscles or weight changes. An x-ray or ultrasound can be very helpful.

Talk with your doc: When did it start? Any new activities? Computer/electronic screen time? Talk with your primary care doc. We can help you sort out the cause, how to feel better, how to prevent. Often it's strained muscles or pinched nerves. Lots if things you can do to feel better soon. Good luck.

Start with: Start with your primary care physician. Consider visiting an osteopathic physician. Dos are trained not only in current medical therapies but we have additional training in the musculoskeletal system and if appropriate may employ manipulative treatment. If not appropriate or in conjuction, you may need medication or further imaging and/or referral. I agree however, you need a diagnosis.

Agree: Start with your primary care physician. Consider being seen by an osteopathic physician who has additional training in the musculoskeletal system. A do can evaluate and treat an issue like yours, obtain proper testing to identify the root cause, provide medication and referral if needed and often can employ manipulative therapy, if appropriate, to further assess and treat your symptoms.
