Possibly: Once an infection by strep has established itself it will take some time for the antibiotic to catch up /kill enough germs to stop the continued swelling and discomfort and begin the process of repairing tissues. To date, strep is universally killed by penicillin, so if that is your only issue, a little more time will provide improvement. Some cases of mono can be strep + and the sx overlap.
