Gingivitis: You describe a condition known as gingivitis. This is a localized inflamation of the gums. You may also have periodontitis which is a loss of bone around your teeth. Both of these conditions may be an indication of a more systemic problem. See you dentist to evaluate your problem.

Bacteria, see dentist: You are describing at least gingivitis- inflammation of the gum tissue. You may have periodontitis-inflammation of the gum tissue and bone loss with it. The cause is microorganisms (bacteria) in your mouth affecting your gums. If the teeth are not thoroughly cleaned every 24 hours, inflammation can occur and then hard deposits, called calculus (tartar)form and cause further irritation. See dentist.

Most likely....: The most likely cause of red, inflamed and bleeding gums is periodontal (gum) diseases, either the milder form known as gingivitis, or the more advance form known as periodontitis. There are many other causes possible. In any case, you need to see your dentist for a complete and thorough dental exam. Catching problems early on is always best!

It is a gum disease: Swollen, bright red gums that bleed easily can be a sign that you are at risk for, or already have, gum disease. This is a serious problem, which should be checked by a dentist. The good news is that this condition is curable. Call your dentist today!
