Speech problem: Speak to your pediatrician or school and have your son referred for speech therapy. You may also want to check with an ENT about clipping his tongue.

Tongue tied: Tongue tied refers to the attachment under the tongue is too short. It can limit it movement and control. It can affect ones speech and swallowing(difficulty taking pills). This can easily be rectified with a minor surgical procedure. In addition, a speech therapist should be used.

Could be: It certainly can be a tongue tie contributing but there are other causes of poor clarity of voice. A speech therapist and/or a pediatric ENT can evaluate your soon to be sure. They may also suggest a hearing test to ensure that isn't part of the problem. As long as your son is otherwise developmentally normal, chances are his speech can be helped in the months to come with proper care.
