Advil (ibuprofen) only: Orthodontic treatment is not a very painful event, and use of strong (opiate type) medications is not warranted. The first few days of discomfort and inflammation can be dealt with well by advil (ibuprofen).

Advil, Tylenol, (acetaminophen) time: I recommend medications that you normally take for a headache. You can also use warm water and salt. Give it a week or so and you should be used to the braces. Good luck.

Ibuprofen: Any of the over-the-counter Ibuprofen medications, such as advil, motrin, nuprin, (ibuprofen) or a generic brand, almost always work and are sufficient for tooth discomfort from braces. Just be sure that these are not medications to which you have an allergy.

Yes: Some discomfort is a certainly a part of moving teeth with braces. This discomfort is typically alleviated with over-the-counter analgesics (such as Motrin or advil), softer diet, and warm salt water rinses. The discomfort typically fades after a few days.

Lots of tricks: Take 1 200mg advil (ibuprofen)/motrin?Ibuprofen every 4 hrs w big glass of liquid or full meal. Rinse 4x/day w 1tsp salt in 8oz warm water--swish & spit out. Makes advil (ibuprofen) more effective. Cover "stickers" w orthodontic wax. With q-tip dab orabase-b onto sore spots. Keep mouth immaculately clean. Eat soft high-protein diet. Soreness should start to ease off in just a few days.
