After: my advice would be after, simply so you can concentrate on studying and the exams, in the case there is pain or any adverse effects that could take your mind off of your studies,...and a week or so is not going to matter in the long run anyway. Best wishes.

Immediately after: Doesn't matter if it's new braces, a sore toe, or chapped lips, you simply don't need the distraction while you are taking exams. Call your Orthodontic Specialist's office now to schedule the appointment. Don't wait until after the exams are over to call or you may not get the time slot you want. And enjoy your new smile.
