Age related: At 44 you will have more discomfort than you would have at 14. The discomfort, however, is manageable. Make sure you are seeing a qualified orthodontic specialist, who does nothing but orthodontic treatment, and who is best able to help you manage the transient discomfort that you may experience. At worst, it's like having a headache in your mouth. Uncomfortable but not excessive.
