A member asked:

I read somewhere that to get braces the dentist has to separate you teeth a little is this true and does it hurt?

Sore: To place braces it is sometimes necessary to move teeth apart about the thickness of a piece of paper. To do this a small plastic or metal spacer is placed between your teeth for a few days. Annoying, like getting a popcorn husk caught between your teeth. Ibuprofen takes the edge off. For best quality care and shortest time in treatment see a fully qualified Orthodontic Specialist.

It is true: Separators are always required before placing orthodontic molar bands. It is also common to experience some tenderness or sensitivity in the area where the separators are placed. Hope it helps
