Stop refined carbs: Carbohydrates such as sugar, bread, potato & pasta are usually the biggest culprits when trying to lose weight. When my patients eat protein only for breakfast they don't get as hungry & if they eat a small protein snack every 2- 2 1/2 hours, they stop craving carbs. 2 pieces of fruit are allowed/day. Walking 30 min./day is a good exercise. If weight isn't lost, their could be a thyroid problem.

Avoid sugary drinks: Water and skim (no fat) milk should be your regular drink choices. Don't skimp on milk - 3 servings per day of milk, cheese or yogurt combined. Those who skip dairy have a harder time with weight control. Avoid sugary drinks - soda, sports drinks, energy drinks have too many calories. Limit juice to once a day as even "natural" juice has sugar - think 3 pieces of fruit to make a glass.

Lifestyle change: It's true, the only way to lose weight is to burn off more calories than you eat. So, lifestyle changes must be incorporated to include a healthy diet and exercise. Your doctor may be able to refer you to a weight management program or nutritionist to get started.
