Not usually: It is uncommon for patients now to be required to have a referral for specialty care compared to years past. It may depend however on the health insurance you signed up for. Speaking as an allergy specialist, most of my patients come to me without a referral from their primary physician and that is just fine. It is important that specialty care is available without a gate-keeper.

Depends: That often depends on one's health insurance plan - however, you may want to start with your pcp anyway. They can evaluate your symptoms and get you started on treatment in the meantime. Take care.
