Depends: It depends on your pain threshold, but the discomfort should be easily controlled by advil, (ibuprofen) and will go away soon enough. 4-8 days in my experience.

It takes a week ...: Placing braces is not usually a painful process but it takes about one week to get used to having something new in your mouth. The lining of your cheeks will bother initially but you will get used to them in a few days. Use warm water and salt.

Yes: Yes, the teeth can be very sore when braces are first applied. Rest assured that the pain will go away in a few days.

Soreness: Some discomfort is a certainly a part of moving teeth with braces. This discomfort is typically alleviated with over-the-counter analgesics, softer diet, and warm salt water rinses. The discomfort typically fades after a few days.

Yes: There is some discomfort when you start (i would not describe as pain, as it is not sharp), but some discomfort is to be expected. Yes, it goes away in a couple of days. I suggest some ibruprophin for a couple of days and then you'll be fine.

Yes: Until you get used to braces they will drive you crazy. Make sure mouth immaculately clean (brush and floss)before & during rx. Take 1-2 advil (ibuprofen) every 4 hrs w food or lots of liquid. Rinse w 1tsp salt in 8oz warm water 4x/day. Put orthodontic wax onto "stickers". Use q-tip to dab orabase-b onto sore spots. Eat soft high-protein diet. Discomfort should ease off after just a few days.
