Absolutely: The 6 month check up allows your dentist to find tooth/gum problems when they're small, easily and inexpensively treated. The cleaning removes debris and pathogens that harm your teeth and gums. The dentist or hygienist can reach areas you may be missing and dan teach you to better maintain your oral health.

It all depends: Most dentists like to see their patients about every six months to try to keep on top of problems. After all, the best care is preventive care. Many people need their teeth cleaned with about this frequency, some with problems more often, some with excellent teeth and "lucky" genes, less often. It depends on your individual needs. You should discuss this with your dentist.

Almost always: For most patients it makes a tremendous difference. Even the professionals, myself included, always tend to miss a little spot here and there no matter how conscientious we are. While the dentist or hygienist is doing the cleaning they can also pick up on some issues early on, and little problems can easily become big problems left untreated for a year.
