Yes: It can be done under sedation in cooperative patient. Not sure is it the best option. Anesthesiologist and surgeon have to make decision.

Its not the rouitine: Vp shunt surgery is usually done with general anesthesia. This is the safest way to do it. Under extreme circumstances, it is possible to do this surgery with local anesthesia nd sedation, but again this will be very unusual. Hope this helps.
