Wound healing : Wound healing is a process occurring over a period of 8 months to a year. For optimal healing (strength of at least 75% of original wound) it takes up to 8 months. For normal healing and normal activities- 6 weeks is safest. If you had a ruptured appendix requiring the wound to be left open- it may take 6-8 weeks to granulate. Your surgeon may also elect to secondarily close after 2 weeks.
