Not recommended: You should have a mouthguard that is custom made by your dentist. If you get a "store bought" mouthguard, especially one that is made for someone with braces, it will not fit properly. The mouthguard should be a snug fit so that it protects the teeth and does not cause damage or irritations to the teeth and gums.

You shouldn't: Mouthguards need to fit perfectly to protect your teeth. Don't skimp on the mouthguard because of cost... It will cost alot more to restore a fractured tooth or jaw than it will cost for a custom mouthguard.
