Depression & brain: Quick answer: yes. (although the brain damage would be considered "mild" compared to a stroke or brain trauma). Chronic depression lowers the secretion of brain derived neurotrophic factor ("bdnf") in the brain. This is active in the hippocampus (where memory function lives), cortex and the basal forebrain.
