I take 20mg of citalopram & we really want to try for a baby however don't feel normal off citalopram and wondered of the effects on an unborn baby?

See below: Usually a physician and patient decide together if the potential negatives out weigh the benefits when deciding whether to continue antidepressants during pregnancy. Some possible effects from this class of medication (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) inludes lower birth weight & necessity for the baby to require a tube to help with breathing right after birth.

Weigh risk/ benefits: Citalopram has been assigned to pregnancy category c by the fda. Spontaneous abortion and induced withdrawal effects has been described. In 3d trimester infants exposure may require prolonged hospitalization, resp. Support, and tube feeding. They might develop complications consistent with serotonin syndrome (resp.Distress, cyanosis, apnea, seizures, temp.Instability, feeding intolerance, tremor.
