Yes: In a healthy mouth, your gums should not bleed when flossing. Bleeding indicates there is inflammation present that is likely from plaque and tartar deposits on your teeth. You may need your teeth cleaned or you may have some gum disease. Your dentist can help you with both problems and instruct you on how to properly brush and floss in the future to prevent it from getting worse.

Yes: Bleeding is a sign that your gums are not healthy. Dr. Curalli gave you a excellent and thorough answer to your question. Have you dentist evaluate you periodontal (gum) health and either treat you or refer you to a periodontist.
