Not necessarily: Autistic individuals appear sensitive to cadmium. Lowering stress, having a very healthy diet, and GI tract, getting a good night sleep, exercise and happiness are necessary. Dairy, wheat, and sugar promote a microflora in the GI tract that causes stress and inflammation. These are the effects of cadmium.

Another " take"on: This from peer-reviewed studies is to ask his doctor to test for celiac disease, found in 7% of both autistic & non-autistic kids. Deleting gluten isn't necessary if he doesn't have it. Likewise, deleting milk products (casein) helps only if he has a milk protein allergy. See the autism speaks website for recommended tests for GI disorders in kids with autistic disorder.

Not necessary : More than that , wholesome diet cutting overpocessed foods eg minimizing corn syrup, high sugar foods/drinks, msg , food with long list of preservatives, is always best. Heighten veggies eg hide in food. No formal studies have proven gluten free or celiac free is a general answer. Yet some people swear by it- no harm in trying for 1-2 months and see of helps. Transition foods very slowly :)
