A member asked:

Can a child be getting autism after the age of 3 years, or is that too old?

Possible: It is possible for symptoms of an autistic spectrum disorder to not be noticed until after 3 years of age. Officially, symptoms must be present by 3 years of age to make the diagnosis. However, in reality, in everyday practice, children are often not brought to the attention of a professional for evaluation until after 3 years of age.

Unlikely: The symptoms of autism are usually present before age 2. However, if you are seeing something that concerns you, i would still consult with your child's doctor.
