See your dentist: Normal pain following removal, dry socket, alveolitis, infection? Who knows? We can't diagnose your problem over the internet. How do you know it is not a dry socket? You need to see\consult with the dentist who removed the tooth. Feel better.

Possible food: Hoow long ago was the tooth out? If it was the last few days then it is normal to still have discomfort. If its over a week than it maybe food impacted in the site or a loose piece of bone. Everyone heals differently and some people take longer to heal than others. If you are worried about possible infection or even a dry socket than go see your oral surgeon and let them take a look at it.

Possible causes: In addition to the other possible causes mentioned by the other docs, the extraction site pain could be irritation to the soft tissue or gums from the procedure as well as from an irregularity of the bone surrounding the extraction site which can be quite uncomfortable. Your dentist or surgeon can advise you after examining you.
