How old is toddler?: Dental history? Antibiotic history? Brushes his/her teeth? It depends on the cause of the discoloration, in addition to all of the above factors. If your toddler is over 2 years old, it's time to see the dentist. You'll get a more accurate answer from a dentist who can ask you these questions and examine your child.

Proper dental care: Prevention of tooth discoloration in toddlers is no different from prevention in adults: attention to proper diet, oral hygiene, and regular professional care. Children should have their first trip to the dentist by age 1. Until a child is capable of doing it himself, daily brushing by the parent is mandatory. Some nutritional supplements, notably those with iron, can cause discoloration.
