Are crowns better than lumineers?

Different things: Lumineers are mostly for cosmetic purposes while crowns cover most or all of the tooth to give strength and replace missing tooth structure due to decay or fracturing.

Lumineers are better: Depending on whether your teeth have restorations on them or not. If you are only trying to change esthetics, veneers(not necessarily lumineers) would be more conservative as long as you have next to no existing fillings on teeth. Crowns are needed when there are existing fillings, depending on your situation.

It depends...: Crowns are recommended when more of the tooth is affected by decay, erosion, or fillings. Lumineers are porcelain veneers which require less of the tooth structure to be removed. Lumineers are more conservative. So the better alternative depends upon your individual situation, the condition of the teeth in question. A trusted dentist can assist you in which is better for you.

Different : They are 2 different restorations. Lumineers is a patented name for a kind of veneer. A veneer covers over part of the tooth to make changes in color , position, length, etc Lumineers are marketed to be very thin , and often require little/no preparation. Crowns typically surround and cover the tooth and are much more aggressively prepared - take away more tooth. They do all that a veneer does.

Sometimes: And sometimes veneers (no matter the brand) are better than crowns. The least invasive treatment is Orthodontics to straighten the teeth, either eliminating need for dental surgery or placing teeth in best relationships to do the restorative treatment. That may simplify your restorative need, and make the restorations more successful and more long lasting.
