No: Boils will not improve with the use of topical treatments. They need to be soaked frequently with hot salt or boric acid in water until they come to a head and drain. If they become large they may require surgical incision and drainage. Sometimes antibiotic pills that cover staphylococcus aureus, the usual bacterial cause of boils, need to be given as well.
