Sometimes.: Putting eye drops in the ears is safe, and we'll do that sometimes if appropriate ear drops are unavailable. The other way (ear drops to eyes) is a definite no-no.

While: ophthalmic solution might be substituted there is an otic solution that is designed for some types of ear infections. Ofloxacin otic may be used for treatment of Otitis Externa, Acute Otitis Media in children with tympanostomy tubes and Chronic Supporative Otitis Media with perforated Ear drum (with susceptible microorganisms).
