Sore muscles: When you work out, the muscles produce a byproduct, lactic acid, that will make them feel sore the next day. You can try stretching, heat, massages and some anti inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen to try to help. Resting the muscles for a day or so after heavy workout is best. Try not to work out so heavy or for so long next time. Lighter weight and more reps are just as beneficial.

Rest is best: Weight lifting fatigues muscles and may cause pain if you lift too often, too much weight, too many repetitions especially if you have just started. Rest at least one day between sessions so muscles can recover. Heat, gentle massage, acetaminophen/ibuprofen may help. Some like the homeopathics arnica pill/cream or trameel cream. Go slow and rest. Consult a trainer to develop an appropriate plan.
