Subungual hematoma..: A subungual hematoma is bleeding under the fingernail caused by a crush injury; causes intense pain and throbbing. If is is really painful, it can be decompressed. Should be done by doc if >50% of nail bed involved (nail may need to be removed). Doctors use cautery; diy'ers use a heated, sterilized needle. If not too bad, can just watch and wait.
