ENT: Hello. If you have a large quantity of cerumen that is obstructing your ear canal and effecting your hearing - it is likely time to see your physician or your otolaryngologist (ear, nose & throat doctor). Good luck.

Get checked: Unless there's a hole in your eardrum (perforation) you cannot have wax stuck behind your eardrum. More likely, there is mucus in there but, it should not last a whole year after a cold. You need to be examined by an ENT who can evaluate your ear and hearing health. Expect to have formal hearing testing done when you go in, called an audiogram. The whole thing should be painless.
