Absolutely: If it is on a tooth and not an implant, then , yes. The temporary crown protects the underlying tooth structure and maintains the space between the teeth and against the tooth in the other jaw that chews against this one.

Usually: Temporary crowns are usually placed in between the appointment to prepare a tooth for a crown and the appointment when the permanent crown is placed. However, sometimes, a temporary crown is not necessary.

Definitely, yes: the temporary crown after crown preparation is very important because your dentist has removed of tooth structure from the prepared tooth. The temporary crown acts as a protective barrier, keeping the prepared tooth safe and in its place.
