What steps are taken to treat a person whose eye was punctured by a needle?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ophthalmologist Exam: If the puncture is with a clean needle and there is no fluid leaking from the eye then antibiotic eyedrops and observation to make sure there is no infection is probably all that is necessary. The treatment also depends an where the needle penetrated the globe. Leaking wounds or wounds with dirty of vegetative wounds (i.e. Cactus thorn) probably need surgical closure and intraocular antibiotics.
