How to know if we have carpal tunnel syndrome? is there any test we can run on our own?

See below: The symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome vary but usually involve aching in the wrist and numbness and tingling in the thumb, index and middle finger and sometimes half of the ring finger. Usually symptoms are worse with driving and at night and people find relief when they shake their hands. Can progress to weakness and dropping objects. Can cause pain all the way to the shoulder at times.

Phalens Exam: Lift both hands to the level of your head and let the wrists just flop over so that your fingers are pointing towards your ears. Hold this position for 30-60 seconds. If you experience numbness, tinging or pain in your hands this is highly suggestive of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Yes: You can use Phalen's test yourself (youtube it), test for two-point discrimination with a pair of dividers, and complete the symptom questionnaire at www.carpal-tunnel.net - all of which will help to indicate whether you have CTS or not
