Could you be able to tell from a lumbar, hip, and leg mri of the level of the athlete-i.e. elite non-elite?

Not really: The level of wear and tear on one's joints as seen on MRI does not necessarily indicate one's level of athleticism. For example, a recreational runner may have poor biomechanics that leads to early degeneration while an elite triathlete may have the best biomechanics yet do to the sheer amount of overuse mri's can show similar wear and tear patterns.
