Heavy bleeding: Typically soaking through a tampon every hour constitutes a trip to the emergency room but if you feel light-headed, dizzy, heart racing or short of breath, you may be bleeding more than your body can handle and should go to the emergency room. Taking iron will slowly help rebuild your blood levels. There are prescription strength iron pills that can be more effective than over the counter pill.

Could be an issue: Heavy bleeding like you describe especially after menopause could definitely be an issue. A thick uterine lining could indicate an endometrial cancer. Your doctor should do an endometrial biopsy or a D&C to determine. A hysterectomy is an option but i would want to rule out a cancer prior.
