Be understanding: Give the child (depending on age and maturity) the information he or she needs to understand why the lotion is important, what may happen if it is not applied and ask questions. Let the child know that he/she may be very uncomfortable and give them ownership of the problem. Should this progress to a situation of significant risk, you will have to step up, bea parent and do the necessary thing.
