Necessary? NO!: Circumcision is rarely medically indicated. It is often medically contraindicated. There is a littany of pro's and con's for doing circumcision. Most boys are circumcised for religeous or cultural reasons along with "societal" reasons. You should do much research, talk about it alot and then decide what you will do to or for your baby. Remeber, your baby has not choice if you decide. Be wise.

No: Circumcision is completely optional. Some studies show circumcision lowers the rate of HIV transmission but these are all done in high risk populations. No medical organization recommends routine circumcision.

Again, the Data: Analysis of all the available research data by the american academy of pediatrics demostrated a benefit of doing it versus the detriment of the risk. The benefit was described as "small", but this does mean there is an advantage to performing it than the risk of not.

No: I like to compare the "medical necessity" of circumcision to that of, for example, doing a surgery to take out your appendix as an infant just so you never have the "risk" of having appendicitis (it wouldn't make any sense). If circumcision follows religious belief, or even family tradition i think it is ok to do it... But not necessary. I don't oppose it, but want pts to realize it is a choice.

No: Newborn circumcision is purely elective unless you are jewish or muslim. Although immediately after birth is best time to be circumcised if it is ever required.
