Wrong ?: The simple methods used in the newborn & first weeks can be done under local anesthesia & rarely have bleeding issues. The older infant becomes more difficult as blood flow to the tissues changes, increasing bleeding risk. General anesthesia & stitches are common for the older infant & child. Many would defer the operation until after 1 yr if it is not done near the time of birth.
