Vesicles : The vesicular stage is the most contagious. The tiny little fluid filled vesicles contain live virus and is most easily transmissible.

Higher with blister: Research shows that a person will be the most contagious once the cold sore is present. This is pustule filled with the herpes virus. Although it must be noted that once the prodrome sensation happens (which is a tingling sensation) a person is contagious. Non initiated soft tissue lasers are an awesome for treatment in the prodromal phase. Check with your doctor about l-lysine benefits.

Higher with sore: The virus is more abundant when there is a sore present, but is still present during prodrome and even when no sore is present.
