A member asked:

Are the palates part of the skull? if too much force is exerted to the palate during the dental procedure, can the palate crack along the midline?

Not really: The palate is definitely part of the skull. Firstly, your palate has a developmental seam down the middle of it anyway, but it is fused. One would have to apply an inordinate amount of force to crack a patient's palate during dental work, so it is highly unlikely. However, it is possible to "crack" and expand the palate intentionally in a procedure called distraction osteogenesis.

Hard palate: The hard palate is the surface of bone that separates the oral and nasl cavities. It is very onlikely the palate could be cracked during dental procedures.

Palates: The palate is the floor of the skull in this section. I do not anticipate the palate cracking along the midline during a dental procedure; this area is very strong and more resistant to cracking. This area fuses during the time of puberty.
