Narcolepsy: Sleep paralysis may be benign, but is also a symptom of narcolepsy. You intimate that paralysis occurs at other times as well. Might want to have this evaluated.

This is not uncommon: Sleep paralysis, or more correctly rem-sleep paralysis is a normal phenomenon. It occurs most commonly as people are just falling asleep or just waking up. It is not dangerous. Being acutely or chronically deprived of sleep appears to augment this happening. Very frequent sleep paralysis along with cataplexy, excessive daytime sleepiness and sleep-related hallucinations occur in narcolepsy.
