Progesterone levels: Progesterone levels are low during the first half of the menstrual cycle. Mid cycle the LH hormone surge occurs releasing a corpus luteum cyst. This cyst produces Progesterone causing levels to rise. In premenopausal women the Progesterone levels must be interpreted knowing the day of the cycle. Typically Obgyns do not test Progesterone levels routinely for this reason.
