There are a few: You could potentially loose the child and you need to understand that before surgery. If you we're further along the uterus could be in the way if the surgery. When preg the uterus increases blood flow and bleeding is bigger risk. Typically we don't like surprises in the operating room.

It's the standard: Taking a complete history from the patient is part of standard procedure in caring for any medical or surgical patient and that includes taking the gynecologic history. It would be inappropriate to operate on a pregnant patient without knowing that part of a patient's history.
