It could: I think most folks do best sleeping on their side with a small pillow between the knees to maintain support. Make sure your mattress isn't older than 8-10 years.

Back pain prevention: Lying on either side with knees pulled towards chest is one position. Lying on back with knees towards chest & pillows under lower legs is another. [see image] make sure mattress is comfortable: not too soft or too firm. Getting into bed: sit on bedside; lay down on side; bring legs up onto bed. Getting out: reverse procedure.
