Pillows under legs: Here are my recommendations for sleeping with a sore back: 1) the most important thing for a sore back is to have the right type of mattress. You want one that will provide good support yet be able to accommodate pressure points. 2) whether you sleep on your side or on your back, it is a good idea to use pillows between your legs when on your side, & under your knees when lying on your back.
