If amyloid proteins are seen on an echo does that guarantee cardiac amyloidosis?

No: Amyloid is an abnormal protein tha deposits in organs. Some types of amyloid are associated with organ dysfunction. A cardiac biopsy sent for special stains is the gold standard test for cardiac amyloid.

Amyloid: An echocardiogram can detect an increase in the echo signal in a pattern consistent with amyloid deposition. The only way to be certain if there is amyloid in the heart is to perform a cardiac biopsy.
