Used for Insomnia : Trade name ambien (zolpidem). Used for short-term treatment of insomnia. Comes in regular 5mg &10mg tablet. Generally 10mg at bedtime use. Elderly dose is 5mg. Clinical effectiveness is fairly good for most patients. Ambien (zolpidem) cr comes in two strenght (6.25 & 12.5 mg er) used of sleep onset insomnia and sleep maintance insomnia. Lower dose 6.25mg used for elderly. In hepatic imparement lower dose used.
