Lab Test: This is a method of testing for the presence of influenza a or b. The process is called enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and it is approximately 90% accurate and of moderate expense.

Unreliable test: Refers to a test that determines the presence of antibodies against the influenza virus. It has a very inconsistent sensitivity rate, and can potentially read a negative result in a patient that actually does have the flu. Superceded by molecular techniques that are more accurate but expensive to administer.
