What is the definition or description of: anticardiolipin antibodies?

See below: Anti-cardiolipin antibodies (aca) are antibodies directed against cardiolipin and found in several diseases, including syphilis, antiphospholipid syndrome, and lupus. They are a form of anti-mitochondrial antibody. Aca can be classified as either igm, igg or IgA and they can be β2-glycoprotein dependent or independent. Anti-phospholipid antibodies can either be lupus anticoagulants or the aca.

Mitochondrial factor: Cardiolipin is the equivalent of a mitochondrial factor, and so anticardiolipin antibodies are considered to be anti-mitochondrial antibiodies. They are also found in various diseases (such as syphilis, antiphospholipid syndrome, behçet's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus). They can be seen in association with spontaneous abortions too.
